VIDEO ART : INDONESIA – BERLIN & BEYOND

Krisna Murti Works and lives in Bandung.
He finished his study in the Faculty of Arts and Design – Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Bandung in 1981. He has carried out his solo and group exhibition since 1980. In his twenty-years of involving and working in arts, Krisna has listed 15 solo exhibitions The exhibitions – regional and international – were carried out, among others, in Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, Perth, Bangladesh, Fukuoka and Berlin. In 1999 he published his book entitled “Video Public” and in present, 2009, he publish his 2nd Book entitled “ Essay on Video Art and New Media, Indonesia & Beyond “

Kathrin Becker is Berlin based curator and work currently as the head of the n.b.k. Video-Forum. The Video-Forum was establisehd in 1971 and is the eldest video collection in Germany. We have ca. 1000 works of international video artists from the early years of video art in the late 1960s to the present.

The video screening consists of work by Berlin based artists from the collection of the n.b.k. Video-Forum, the eldest video collection in Germany. It mirrors the international situation within the art scene of Berlin and shows work with different formal and thematic approaches, with a strong focus on stages performances. From the attempt to fly with a self-constructed balloon (Aschenbrenner) via the performance of a group of disabled actors who claim their role in society (Erikssaon) to the animated text and visual fragments based on Alexander Lurija´s “The man in a shattered world” (Florenty), the screening offers a entertaining and at the same time inspiring selection of “Berlin hot shots”.

The commented video screening gives an overview over the 40 years of video art history. Taking its starting point from the technological precondition of video art, the development of the Sony Portapak video camera in 1965, the screening consists of four different chapters:

1) TV as a creative medium? About the interference of video art and TV
2) VideoPerformances: Relations between Body, Media and Space
3) Female Trouble: Video and Feminist practice
4) Hi and low: Video reflecting the media

The screening start with the works from Wolf Vostell (1932-1998) and Nam June Paik (1932-2006)
